A handful of the more famous or notorious visitors were:
- The German Vice-Chancellor Von Papen, American General Clarke, British General Alexander, and - after the war - an uninterrupted flow of writers & artists, royals & other eminences. To name but a random few...
- Modigliani, Fellini, Ursula Andress, Tenessee Williams, Grieg, Bernstein, Menuhin & Yoko Ono. Also Ravello’s most celebrated, official “honorary citizen," the American writer & Wildean wit, Gore Vidal, & his long-time, “warring" literary rival Truman Capote. (On separate occasions, of course.)
The hotel is located directly opposite the Municipio, only a short procession from the civil ceremonials. It’s therefore a well-accustomed, as well as well-reputed, host for the receptions, either in its interior “stately halls" or its sea-view rose gardens & groves of the incomparable “Amalfi Lemon." (Another distinction – another story.)
The hotel is exclusive, just 21 rooms & suites. Its cuisine makes the very best, most imaginative use of local fish, seafood & organic farm produce. Its service is meticulously attentive.
Overall, the hotel is a favoured location, especially (though not exclusively) for non-religious weddings.
